Sameer Rizvi started playing cricket at a very young age. At the age of 11, he started taking cricket training at Gandhibagh Academy in Meerut, where he learned professional cricket under the guidance of his maternal uncle Tanqib Akhtar. Sameer’s maternal uncle recognized his ability to play cricket and taught him the intricacies of the game. It was he who inspired Sameer to take cricket seriously. But he also had to face the anger of Sameer’s father for keeping him away from studies.
Tanqib therefore stopped going to his sister’s house for many years. Despite this, he continued teaching his nephew to play cricket. Sameer soon impressed everyone with his batting talent. When Sameer Rizvi was opening the batting at the Under-16 level, his coach asked him to bat in the middle order after seeing his good performance in spin bowling. After this, he gained fame with his explosive batting. He performed brilliantly in Under-16 cricket and scored 610 runs in 7 matches. The selectors selected him in the India Under-19 team considering his consistent batting and shot-making ability.

At the age of 16, Sameer Rizvi made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy. Sameer Rizvi did not perform well in his first first-class match against Madhya Pradesh on 27 January 2020. He could not score a single run in the first innings, but was out on two runs in the second innings. In Sameer Rizvi’s List Uttar Pradesh’s first appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for 2021–2022. So far, he has scored 205 runs in 11 List-A matches at an average of 29.28.
In the 2023 UP T20 League, Sameer Rizvi came into limelight when he became the leading run-scorer in the tournament by scoring 455 runs in 9 innings. During this, he scored two centuries for his team Kanpur Superstars, in which he also scored the fastest century of the tournament in just 47 balls. He played an inning of 84 runs in 50 balls in the final and made an important contribution in helping his team win the title. Rizvi was the player who hit the most sixes in this league for his team.
