Suresh Raina revealed an incident when MS Dhoni took his permission
MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina’s friendship is widely known and arguably one of the greatest friendships in the history of cricket. The pair attest to their strong friendship by sharing in each other’s achievements on several occasions. Raina was one of the key members of India’s ODI World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2013 winning teams, both times under Dhoni. Both the cricketers announced their retirement from international cricket on the same day.
Raina was also present to celebrate Dhoni’s fourth IPL title with Chennai Super Kings before he retires from the IPL league in 2022.
Although, there are many stories of amazing friendship moments between Raina and Dhoni, one of them unknown story was told by Raina in a recent performance by the former Uttar Pradesh cricketer. In which he told how the wicket-keeper batsman had already told him the reason for his exclusion from CSK’s IPL 2021 playing XI.

Raina said on Geo Cinema that Dhoni had sought his consent before replacing Robin Uthappa in the last matches of the event. He also spoke about how the CSK skipper politely reminded him about his years of playing together for the franchise and his ambition to win titles.
“When MS Dhoni and I spoke, I suggested to him that ‘you should try Robin Uthappa’. He (Dhoni) took permission from me to play you and I told him that ‘he will give you the last’ trust me. ‘ He is a giving person.” ‘ Raina told Uthappa on JioCinema.
MS Dhoni said that ‘see we have played since 2008 but I want to win this season. Now you tell me what to do. I said ‘play Robin at No.3 and make sure he is in the playing XI till the final. If you win, CSK will win. Should I play or he, Robin and Raina are the same.
It is important to mention that Raina and Dhoni have been with the CSK franchise since the inception of the tournament. However, the left-handed batsman’s last season with the team was in 2021. In that season, the Chennai team won the title, in which Uthappa performed strongly till the end.
