Devdutt Padikkal is an Indian international cricketer, who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricketer Devdutt Padikkal was born on 7 July 2000 in Edappal, Kerala. His father’s name is Babunu Kunnath Padikkal, who worked in DRDO and his mother Ambili Padikkal, is a visa consultant. He has a sister, Chandni Padikkal, a lawyer. Devdutt’s father was a cricket fan and after seeing his son holding the bat at the age of just 3, he decided to make him a cricketer.

Devdutt received his early education at Army Public School and St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School and later completed his graduation in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University of Business Management, Bangalore. He also took training at Karnataka Institute of Cricket.

At the age of nine, Devdutt Padikkal took up cricket.In 2011, his family shifted from Hyderabad to Bangalore, where he started training at the Karnataka Institute of Cricket. In 2014, he started his career by playing cricket for the Under-14 team of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). After this he represented Karnataka in Under-16 and Under-19 level and performed very well. In 2017, Bellary Tuskers included him in their team in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL). After performing brilliantly in the league, Padikkal was selected in Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy.
On November 28, 2018, Devdutt Padikkal made his Karnataka first-class debut in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. In the second innings of his first match against Maharashtra, he scored a half-century and scored 77 runs in 128 balls. In 2018, Devdutt represented the India under-19 team. Devdutt was also a part of the winning team in the Under-19 Asia Cup. Where he scored 183 runs in four matches at an average of 45.75, with the highest score of 121 against UAE in Bangladesh.
He made his List A debut for Karnataka in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 26 September 2019 and impressed with his score of 58 off 83 balls against Jharkhand. After this brilliant innings, he did not look back and scored his first List A century against Saurashtra and scored another unbeaten century in the next match against Goa. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 609 runs in 11 matches. In October 2019, he was named in the India A squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.
On 8 November 2019, he made his Twenty20 debut for Karnataka in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and scored an unbeaten 53 runs in 33 balls with the help of 4 fours and three sixes against Uttarakhand. In March 2022, Padikkal scored his maiden first-class century with 178 runs in a 2021–22 Ranji Trophy match against Puducherry. In 2024, Padikkal was also a part of the India A team against England Lions. With two centuries (105) in the second test and a half-century (65) in the third, Devdutt Padikkal has amassed over 2200 runs at an average of over 44 in just 31 first-class matches.
In December 2018, Devdutt Padikkal was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 20 lakh for the 2019 Indian Premier League. However, he did not get a chance to play that season. RCB retained him for the 2020 IPL season. On 21 September 2020, Devdutt made his IPL debut against Surrisers Hyderabad. He scored a half-century in his first IPL match and played an innings of 56 runs in 42 balls. He became the first player in IPL history to score three half-centuries in his first four matches.
Padikkal scored 473 runs in 15 matches for RCB in his first IPL season and won the Emerging Player of the Year award for the 2020 IPL. On 22 April 2021, Devdutt scored his first century in the 2021 IPL with a score of 101* as Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals by 10 wickets. In February 2022.
Devdutt Padikkal was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 7.75 crore in the 2022 IPL auction. In April 2022, he scored his 1000th run in the IPL while playing for Rajasthan Royals. In November 2023, he was traded to Lucknow Supergiants for Rs 7.75 crore ahead of the 2024 IPL auction.
In June 2021, Devdutt Padikkal was named in India’s ODI and T20 International squads for the series against Sri Lanka. He made his T20 International debut for India against Sri Lanka in Colombo on 28 July 2021. In his first match he scored 23 runs in 23 balls. In February 2024, Devatt Padikkal was included in the Indian Test squad for the third Test against England in Rajkot, replacing injured KL Rahul.
