James Anderson was born on 30 July 1982 in Lancashire, England. His full name is James Michael Anderson. James Anderson received his early education from St. Mary and St. Theodore RC High School in Burnley. He was more interested in cricket than studies, so he focused more on playing cricket.
Anderson started playing cricket at Burnley Cricket Club at a very young age. He was one of the Lancashire League’s fastest bowlers at the age of 17. Anderson made his List A debut for Lancashire against Suffolk in the 2002 NatWest Trophy. In his first season, he impressed everyone by taking 50 wickets in just 13 matches. During this period, he also achieved the feat of taking five wickets thrice. He became the youngest player in county history to score a hat-trick in 2003. He took his first first-class wicket by dismissing Ian Ward in May 2002 and became a consistent performer for his home team.
Anderson recorded his first 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket against Worcestershire in 2004. He finished the 2005 season with an average of 30.21 for 60 first-class wickets and 22.00 for 27 List A wickets. At the start of the 2009 English cricket season, Anderson achieved career-best match figures of 11/109 in a first-class match against Sussex as Lancashire won by 8 wickets. This was his only first-class match for Lancashire before being called up to the England cricket team for the series against the West Indies. As of 26 April 2009, Anderson had taken 188 wickets at an average of 24.37 in 48 first-class matches with Lancashire and 66 wickets at an average of 21.78 in 44 List A matches.

At the age of 20, James Anderson made his ODI debut on 15 December 2002 against Australia in Melbourne. However, his performance was not good and he took one wicket for 46 runs in six overs. Anderson became the 42nd English player to take five wickets in an innings during his Test debut on May 22, 2003, against Zimbabwe at Lord’s. After this, he continued to perform well in Test cricket and gained fame. However, he was in and out of the team till the end of 2007. On 9 January 2007, Anderson made his T20 International debut against Australia and was successful in taking one wicket for 64 runs in four overs.
When New Zealand toured England in 2008, he was retained in the squad for the home series. In which he took 19 wickets against New Zealand at an average of 19.31 and was the leading wicket taker of the series. The 2010 Ashes series was very good for Anderson, in which he took 24 wickets and came into limelight. Anderson was selected in the squad for the 2011 World Cup, but his performance in the tournament was disappointing and his team was eliminated in the quarter-finals. However, Anderson shone in the Test series against India and recorded figures of 5/65 in the first Test. Whereas by taking 5 wickets in the second test and 6 wickets in the third test, he gave England a 3-0 lead in the series.
Anderson took 3 more wickets in the final Test, as England won the series 4–0. After this Anderson came to be considered the world’s leading fast bowler. Anderson was chosen England Cricketer of the Year in 2012. Anderson played an important role in the 2013 Champions Trophy. When he took his 235th wicket during the match against Australia, he became England’s highest ODI wicket taker. After this he recorded figures of 7/70 in the opening match of the Test series against New Zealand. In a match involving all seven of the major Test-playing nations, Anderson became the first fast bowler to reach 50 wickets in 2016. On 8 September 2017, Anderson became the first England bowler and the third fast bowler in the world to take 500 Test wickets. He achieved this position by dismissing Craig Brathwaite of West Indies.
In the second Test of the series against South Africa in January 2020, Anderson claimed his 28th five-wicket haul in Test cricket history. With this, he overtook the record of Sir Ian Botham (27 five-wicket hauls) and became the bowler with the highest five-wicket haul for England in Test cricket. On 25 August 2020, on the fifth day of the final Test against Pakistan, Anderson became the fastest bowler to take 600 Test wickets and with this feat, he joins Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708) and Anil Kumble in the prestigious 600 club. Became the fourth bowler to join the list (619). In Test cricket, he also holds the record for the most not outs. On 18 December 2021, Anderson became the first batsman to remain not out 100 times in Test cricket during England’s first innings in the second Test of the Ashes.
