Kumar Kushagra is a young Indian cricketer, who plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand. He is a right-handed wicketkeeper batsman. Kushagra came into limelight by scoring a double century in the pre-quarterfinal match of 2022 Ranji Trophy. By playing a explosive inning of 266 runs, he made the record of being the youngest person (17 years 141 days) to score more than 250 runs in first class cricket. Kushagra loved playing cricket since childhood. His father was the first to recognize Kushagra’s cricketing potential and at the age of just five, his father started training Kushagra himself. His father gave him cricket training for a long time. After that he learned cricket at a professional cricket academy in Ranchi. In 2019, the ace Vinoo came into limelight before the Mankad Trophy, where he scored a maximum of 535 runs in seven matches. After which he was selected in the Indian team for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Kumar Kushagra Domestic Cricket Career
At the age of 17, Kumar Kushagra made his List A debut for Jharkhand in the 2020–2021 Vijay Hazare Trophy. On 20 February 2021, Kushagra played his first List A match against Madhya Pradesh. In that match, he played an innings of 26 runs with the help of three fours. On 04 November 2021, he made his T20 debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Rajasthan. In which he was out after scoring only five runs.
On 24 February 2022, Kushagra made his first-class debut against Delhi. In which he scored 18 runs. However, Kushagra scored his first double century in the Ranji Trophy pre-quarterfinal match in March 2022. Against Nagaland, he played an innings of 266 runs in 269 balls. During this, he hit 37 fours and 2 sixes. With this he became the youngest batsman to score 250 or more runs in first-class cricket.

Later, Kumar Kushagra, batting at number seven in the 2023 Deodhar Trophy, scored 68 runs in 58 balls. Kushagra’s consistent excellent performances attracted IPL teams. In the 2024 Indian Premier League auction, Delhi Capitals paid Rs 7.2 crore to acquire the 19-year-old wicketkeeper batsman. Whereas the base price of Kushgra was Rs 20 lakh. During the auction, there was a tough fight between Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals to include Kushagra in their team. Chennai had also tried to buy Kushagra, but backed out after making a bid of Rs 60 lakh.
