Australia’s Matthew Scott Wade is a left-handed batter and wicketkeeper. He was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, on December 26, 1987. In addition to being colorblind, he has overcome testicular cancer.Matthew Wade, an AFL player’s cousin and the son of former Hawthorn player Scott Wade, was a gifted football player who was raised in Tasmania before relocating to Victoria to pursue his cricket career.
Wade was a gifted junior football player who decided to pursue cricket instead of football because he was too short to play the game professionally at 170 cm. It wasn’t easy going; the fact that he was able to play any international cricket at all is a testament to his mental fortitude; at the age of sixteen, he received a testicular cancer diagnosis, which required two rounds of chemotherapy to cure.
When he realized he would be waiting in the Tasmania wicketkeeping queue behind Tim Paine, he made the move from Hobart to Melbourne. He was given a chance by Victoria, and he seized it, making his first-class debut with 83 runs and six catches. Later, Wade would captain Victoria to two titles in their hat-trick of victories between 2015 and 2017, winning the Sheffield Shield.
Even though he had two hundreds in his first ten Test matches and showed promise early in his career, there was too much competition for the wicketkeeping position. It appeared as though Wade had missed the bus when his childhood friend Paine was selected to captain the Ashes for the 2017–18 series. However, Wade returned to Tasmania, dominated state cricket for two seasons, and gained a spot for the 2019 series against England, during which he amassed two centuries. After that, the Australia white-ball setups were used once again.
However, Haddin returned to the team as vice captain for the Ashes series, and he eventually forced his way back for a largely fruitless stint in 2016 and 2017. He lost his Test spot as a result of his declining form with the bat and gloves.
Wade, however, was called up to the Test team and went on to score two centuries in the 2019 Ashes series in England. He then went on to establish himself as a T20 side “finisher.”
After smashing three straight sixes off Shaheen Shah Afridi to end the match, Wade’s match-winning innings of 41 not out off just 17 balls in the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final against Pakistan earned him Player of the Match honors. This was arguably Australia’s most memorable individual performance in the format.
