When Renuka enrolled in the residential academy for girls run by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in 2009, her career took off. Being from a hilly area, she was naturally fit, and the academy’s coaches forced her to run cross-country to increase her stamina.

Renuka Thakur trained at the academy with strength and conditioning coach Veena Pandey and coach Pawan Sen.

Renuka’s time at the academy gave her more speed and control over her length and line. She was a master at bowling leg-cutters in addition to the in-swing and yorkers.

Renuka Thakur, who recorded a hat-trick in a U-19 match against Karnataka in 2016, went on to take 23 wickets to win the BCCI Women’s One-Day tournament.
