Riyan Parag was born on November 10, 2001, in Guwahati, Assam. His parents have also become players. Riyan’s father, Parag Das, is a former cricketer who has played first-class for the Assam and Railways teams. Many years ago, his father and MS Dhoni played together in the Railways tournament in Kharagpur and Guwahati. His mother, Mithu Barua Das, is an Indian international swimmer, who represented India at the SAF Games and Asian Championships. Ryan’s father wanted him to become a better cricketer than him and play for India. Riyan Parag’s parents inspired him to play cricket.

Riyan Parag completed his studies from South Point School, Guwahati. Ryan was more interested in cricket than studies, so he did not study much.
Ryan started playing cricket at a very young age. He represented Assam under-16 team at the age of 12. Riyan Parag can become India’s youngest first-class player, but the selectors of Assam did not agree on this. However, on 29 January 2017, he made his T20 debut in the 2016–17 Inter State T20 Tournament. At that time he was 15 years and 80 days old. This made him the second youngest Indian cricketer and the fifth youngest in T20 history.He was the second-highest run-scorer in the 2016–17 Cooch Behar Trophy with 642 runs in 14 innings, including a best inning of 202 runs. He was then named in the Indian team for the Under-19 Asia Cup in October 2017.
On 17 November 2017, at the age of 16, Riyan Parag made his first-class debut for Assam in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy. In his first first-class match against Hyderabad, he scored 12 runs in two innings and also took two wickets. In 2017, Ryan was selected in the Indian Under-19 team to play two youth test matches in England. Where he performed brilliantly and was the second highest run scorer for India after Prithvi Shaw. He scored brilliant half-centuries in both the test matches. He also scored the second fastest half-century of the Youth Test match in 33 balls.
After this, he was selected in the India A team in the 2017 U19 Challenger Trophy and was the highest run-scorer in the tournament. Given his excellent performances in domestic cricket, he was included in the Indian squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup in December 2017, which won the trophy. However, due to an injury sustained during practice, he could not play many matches. He batted in the middle order in four matches and scored 17 runs. Apart from this, he also took three wickets.
He was the top scorer for Assam in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 248 runs in seven matches. Ryan was the leading run-scorer for Assam in the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. That season he scored 552 runs at an average of 69 with three centuries and one half-century. He also took 10 wickets from bowling.
While playing against Hyderabad in the group stage match of the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy tournament, apart from taking eight wickets with his leg break bowling, he scored 78 runs on 28 balls in the second innings, which helped his team win by 18 runs in a close match. In a match against Chhattisgarh in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy, Riyan Parag created history by scoring a century in just 56 balls. He became the batsman to score the second fastest century in Ranji Trophy history. He scored 155 runs in 87 balls in this match. He hit 11 fours and 12 sixes in his stormy innings. However, Riyan Parag’s team lost in this match. Chhattisgarh defeated Assam by 10 wickets.
In the 2023 Deodhar Trophy, Riyan Parag was the leading run-scorer in the tournament, as well as the player with the most number of sixes. For this performance he received the Player of the Series award.
Riyan Parag became the highest run scorer and the player who hit the most sixes in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by scoring 510 runs. His strike rate was 182.79 and his average was 85. He also became the first player to score seven consecutive half-centuries in T20 cricket. During this, he also contributed with the ball and took 11 wickets in his name. After this he was included in the India A cricket team for the 2023 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Where he took two important wickets in the final against Pakistan A.
After impressive performances in the domestic circuit, Riyan Parag was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 IPL auction at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. He made his IPL debut on 11 April 2019 against Chennai Super Kings. He scored 16 runs in his first match. During the 2019 IPL, he became the youngest cricketer to score a half-century. He achieved this feat at the age of 17 years and 175 days and broke the previous record of Sanju Samson and Prithvi Shaw at the age of 18 years and 169 days.
Riyan played seven matches in his first season and scored 160 runs and took two wickets. After this, he also played for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 and 2021 IPL seasons and performed well. In the 2020 season, he scored 86 runs in 12 matches and did not take a single wicket. In 2021, he scored 93 runs in 11 matches and took 1 wicket. However, he was released by the Rajasthan franchise before the 2022 IPL mega auction. But Rajasthan Royals again included Riyan Parag in their team by bidding Rs 3.80 crore in the 2022 IPL auction.
He played 17 matches in IPL 2022 and scored 183 runs at an average of 16.64. Apart from this, he took one wicket at an economy rate of 14.75. He was retained by Rajasthan in the 2023 IPL, in which he scored 78 runs in 7 matches at an average of 13. Rajasthan Royals has retained him in the 2024 IPL team.
