Robin Minz is an Indian cricketer, who is best known as the first tribal boy from Jharkhand to be selected for the IPL after being bought by Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024 auctioned off for Rs 3.6 crore.
On September 13, 2001, Robin Minz was born in Gumla, a Jharkhand district where tribes predominate.
His father Francis Xavier Minz was in the army and currently works as a security guard at Ranchi Airport.
When Robin was two years old, his father came home and saw Robin trying to hit a pebble with a stick. Then his father made a bat from a piece of wood and bought a ball from the market and from here his cricket journey started.
After some time, his father was transferred to Ranchi and the family settled in Namkum, 15 kilometers away from the city. When Robin started going to school, he started playing cricket more actively.
Despite being financially weak, Robin’s father encouraged him to play cricket and provided cricket kit and other necessary items by borrowing money.
Robin’s mother told in an interview that, when they initially went to the sports shop to buy a bat and other equipment for Robin, they had planned to spend around Rs 2000. However, he was surprised to know that the bat alone cost Rs 5000. The shopkeeper was also wondering whether they could afford it. But he borrowed some money and bought the kit.
He started playing cricket at the age of 8. His father was also interested in sports and his passion for athletics led him to a military job. When his family came to Ranchi after joining the army, Robin took up cricket.
